On July 1, 1997, the
Illinois State Police, the
University of Illinois, the
Illinois Center for Violence
Prevention, along with other
police agencies,
national experts and
community groups received a
one million dollar grant
from
the United States Department
of Justice to create a
Center for Public Safety and
Justice
to provide training,
education, and technical
assistance. The center
provides training in the
areas of specialized
development, community
policing development, and
partnership and community
